For if a woman does not cover her head, let her also have her hair cut off; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, let her cover her head. (1 Corinthians 11:6)

Bible says for Women to Cover their Hair or else Shave it off. Why do Christian Women still show their hair?

A person has to read more than just one verse in the Bible to gain the whole truth on one subject

1 Corinthians 11:3-16 says that a woman's long hair is her glory and covering. It also shows Christ as the head of man and the church, and that man is the head of his wife and family. It's says that a woman should be covered because she is man's glory, not God's.

In verse 16 it says "Now if anyone is disposed to be argumentative and contentious about this, we hold to and recognize no other CUSTOM [in worship] than this, nor do the churches of God generally."

So it was a custom of the church in that era for a woman to be covered, and not a law from God.

10 Reasons women were to be veiled during that time:

1. It had been a custom for ages for women to be veiled (Gen 24:65; 38:14,10; Ruth 3:15; Isa 3:23; Cant 5:7)

2. It was a Jewish law that no woman be seen in public unveiled.

3. Among Greeks, Romans, and other nations it was also a custom.

4. Only public prostitutes in the East went without veils, hence to pray or prophesy without a veil would be identifying Christianity with harlotry.

5. If a woman appeared in public without a veil she would disgrace her head - the husband. It would be the same as women who had hair shorn off as punishment for whoredom and adultery (Num 5:18)

6. The man was not to wear a veil because he was the image and glory of God. The woman needed one because she was the glory of the man being created for him.

7. The woman needed to wear her veil on her head as a sign of the husband's power over her, thus setting an example of humility and submission to her head - the husband. She would thus be a lesson to angels to submit to God. (Eph 3:10-11; Eccel 5:6; 1 Tim 5:21)

8. The woman needed to co-operate fully with the husband and keep the customs as being equally blessed of God (1 im 2:9; 1 Peter 3:1-7)

9. It was becoming to a woman in that day to be veiled and not common for a Christian woman to pray or prophesy unveiled. That would make her like the heathen priestesses who prayed and delivered the oracles bareheaded or with disheveled hair.

10. It was natural or women to have long hair this indicating they should be veiled.

The customs of most Christian churches today are not for women to have coverings or veils. Salvation isn't through law or custom, it's through the blood of Jesus.

Acts 4:12

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

You're quoting a letter from Paul to the church in Corinth where he was responding to things they had written to him previously. It is the church in Corinth that said this about women, not Paul. Paul was simply repeating it back to them before he replied: "Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper."

Why do they eat shrimp and suffer a witch to live?

It's called cafeteria christianity, they pick and choose the bits that conform to their way of life.

We are so lucky that in the modern world we're not obligated to do every last thing in the Bible.

You have misinterpreted this passage. It is a glory unto her if she has long hair and her hair is given to her for a covering....it is the only covering we need. We don't need a hat or a Vail.

Christians pick and choose what they want to take or leave from the bible. They use it like a catalogue. That is, if they even take the time to read it.

These were the customs of the time. However there are still some Christian religions where women cover their heads and many cover when they are in Holy Places. Because this is a sacred practice it is not often discussed.

1 Corinthians 11:4-7 閳ユ窊very man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.閳?br>Bible says for Women to Cover their Hair or else Shave it off. Why do Christian Women still show their hair?

For Jews, worshipping without one's head covered was regarded with stern disapproval. . . . They believed that the Shekhinah [an often anthropomorphized feminine word], the glory and radiance of the Almighty, surrounds the worshiper and rests upon the man and woman who please God. Therefore, it was regarded as an act of reverence and humility for a person to wear a head covering during worship [i.e., veils for women and prayer shawls for men], just as Moses wore a veil after descending Mount Sinai. . . . Some people wore something on their heads at all times, whether awake or asleep. Jewish women were required to wear their hair bound up whenever they left their homes. Unbound, flowing hair was regarded as sensual and almost a form of nudity. If a woman let her hair down in public she was seen as tempting men to sin. Therefore, the Mishnah declared that a husband might divorce his wife and not have to return her dowry in the event that she 'goes out with her hair unbound . . . or speaks to any man' [who isn't related to her].Women's hair was a common object of lust back then, and a woman who failed to cover her head was rather like a woman showing up at church today wearing nothing but a G-string. In Jewish Palestine, women even veiled their faces 閳?often one eye was all that showed, so the woman could see where she was going. In other parts of the world, upper-class women dispensed with head coverings so that they could show off their incredibly elaborate hairdos 閳?some of those braidings took longer to achieve than cornrows.

We also have to remember that Paul's world, and Corinth in particular, was crawling with sects that gave orgiastic worship to pagan gods and goddesses, and that a woman閳ユ獨 disheveled hair showed that she was a priestess of Isis (who had a big following in Corinth), Bacchus, or some of the other "bacchanalian" religions.

But the bottom line is, if you were living in Corinth in roughly 50 C.E., either you were a wealthy upper-class woman with an elaborate hairdo that took hours and hours to achieve; or you were an ordinary woman with hair that was tidily braided or "bound" and covered with a veil; or you were a prostitute; or you were taking part in an orgy as part of your worship of Isis or some other pagan goddess or god.

Hope this little history lesson helps! Remember there is nothing wrong with reading about why things are written the way they are!! :)

Bible says for Women to Cover their Hair or else Shave it off. Why do Christian Women still show their hair?

The Bible never says women should cover their hair.

You must understand the context of when that was written.

The sign or indication that a woman was a prostitute was that she shaved her head.

A woman under submission to her husband or her father would have long hair.

A woman's hair is the only covering a woman needs.

I hope this helps.

Bible says for Women to Cover their Hair or else Shave it off. Why do Christian Women still show their hair?

That's a good question. They really ought to whenever they attend a church service. The 1960's has negatively influenced the Church. That shouldn't be but it happened. Some Christian woman still cover their head when they go to church, but I would say that most don't. Because women should have long hair, they should cover it. That seems to be a summary of those verses in 1 Cor. 11 dealing with this subject. Conversely, if it is okay to shear the hair or shave it all off, then don't cover it. Not many women want to be seen with a bald head.

Bible says for Women to Cover their Hair or else Shave it off. Why do Christian Women still show their hair?

Because that passage was written by Paul and a lot of people doubt Paul's authority in such matters. I know I doubt a lot of what he says.

Bible says for Women to Cover their Hair or else Shave it off. Why do Christian Women still show their hair?

Because Christians don't follow the Bible anymore and society says if you cover your hair then your either from the Old World(Europe) or are a terrorist.

Bible says for Women to Cover their Hair or else Shave it off. Why do Christian Women still show their hair?

Because Christian women are saved by Jesus Christ, not Paul. Big difference.

Bible says for Women to Cover their Hair or else Shave it off. Why do Christian Women still show their hair?

Because they're not Christians they who do that have no religion at all

YUSUFALI's interpretation of the meaning: Say: "O People of the Book! ye have no ground to stand upon unless ye stand fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that has come to you from your Lord." It is the revelation that cometh to thee from thy Lord, that increaseth in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. But sorrow thou not over (these) people without Faith.
